Past and Present

The legendary 1-acre, 103-room resort situated on Dougall Rd., enjoyed a great run for almost 30 years until owner Al Siegel filed for bankruptcy in 1974. Top entertainers highlighted the nightly floor shows including Tom Jones, Tony Bennett, Liberace, Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis Jr., Barbara Streisand, Sonny & Cher, Milton Berle, Wayne Newton and Englebert Humperdink. The Elmwood fell on hard times, as it could no longer afford the stars it had supported throughout the years and closed in December 1974. In October 1983, after being closed for years and in great despair with windows smashed, electrical stripped and entire walls missing it was purchased by Brentwood and, on July 17, 1984, it began operation. It still serves people with substance abuse today.
