Ouellette Avenue between University Avenue and Chatham Kresge’s replaced by Royal Bank building: 1952 vs. 2019

The S.S. Kresge Department Store (1920-1991) opened on the main floor of the Victoria Building (1883), southwest corner of Chatham and Ouellette, destroyed in a spectacular fire on Christmas Eve, 1945; Kresge’s rebuilt in 1948. Its lunch counter, along with Woolworth’s Dept. Store next door, are fondly remembered by Windsorites of a certain age.
